MAXWELL ANDERSON: IS GOOD TASTE TEACHABLE? DEVELOPING A QUALITY INSTINCT
Affluent collectors hire art advisors to prevent mistakes when spending millions. But hobbyists have always developed expertise without paying a tutor, and so can art lovers. In this talk, author and art world veteran Maxwell Anderson will share his techniques when evaluating fine art and design, and how they guided him during an eight-month quest to acquire what would become the world's most expensive work of art, Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi.
Maxwell Anderson is an American art historian, author, and non-profit executive, who currently serves as President of the Souls Grown Deep Foundation. An internationally renowned leader in several aspects of museum practice, he has lectured and published widely on general issues of museum practice, especially on the ethical collecting of antiquities, institutional transparency, free expression, artists’ rights, and uses of new technologies. Anderson has been knighted by both the Italian and French Republics. He began his career as an assistant curator of Greek and Roman Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1981. Since 1987, he has directed five institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Anderson received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He serves on the boards of the National Committee for the History of Art, the NewCities Foundation, and the National Center for Arts Research, and is Chairman Emeritus of the Global Cultural Districts Network.

The Amarillo Museum of Art is open:
Tuesday through Friday from 10 am - 5 pm.
Saturday and Sunday the Museum is open from 1 pm - 5 pm
(except for exhibition installation weeks)
CLOSED on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
There is no admission fee.
The Amarillo Museum of Art publishes and distributes numerous fine art catalogues and posters. Southeast Asian and East Indian artifacts are featured as well as renowned modernist artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe and John Marin.
