The Amarillo Biennial 600: DRAWING will be an exhibition of artwork selected by a curator/juror from the works submitted by artists living within a 600 mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. James Elaine, the Hammer Projects Curator at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles has curated over 30 solo projects of international emerging artists and group exhibitions. Elaine was the Viewing Program Coordinator and the Selections Show Curator at The Drawing Center in New York, where he co-curated over 40 exhibitions and reviewed hundreds of artists’ work. Each drawing selected for the exhibition will be hand-delivered or shipped by the artist in a re-usable carton or crate* to the Amarillo Museum of Art (AMOA). The incoming shipping and insurance will be at the artist’s expense*. (One drawing per crate or carton*). The AMOA will pay for return shipping and insurance for each drawing in the exhibition. The drawings will be insured while in the possession of the AMOA. AMOA is not responsible for damage due to improper packing. All framed drawings must use plexiglass, (NO GLASS*) and be ready for professional installation (wired for hanging, etc.*). Any special installation instructions should only be sent after artwork has been selected for exhibition in the Biennial. 35mm color slides (NO GLASS)* will be the only accepted format for the curating/jurying process. Please label slides with name, title of work, medium, dimensions (H x W x D), top, and date of work. Slides will not be returned. Each artist may submit up to three slides of three drawings. One slide is free. Each additional slide will carry a $15.00 handling fee. A cashier’s or personal check must be included in the envelope with the slide(s) and completed artist forms seen below. The Amarillo Museum of Art will publish a catalogue to document the exhibition and selected artworks from the exhibition. The catalogue will be distributed to relevant art institutions and galleries nationwide. Each accepted artist will receive 2 copies of the Amarillo Biennial 600: DRAWING catalogue. Accepted artworks may be reproduced for publicity or educational purposes, and may appear on the Amarillo Museum of Art website. Artists whose works are accepted for inclusion in the Amarillo Biennial 600: DRAWING will be notified in writing by the 1st week in April, 2005. All artwork selected for the exhibition must be postmarked by May 2, 2005. The Amarillo Museum of Art will award two $1000.00 cash awards along with selected purchases for the Museum collection.
