Welcome to Teacher's Choice

Incorporate the visual arts into your classroom curriculum with these on-line lesson plans.

Teacher's Choice is an on-line resource for teachers of all subject areas. Developed by the Amarillo Museum of Art, this link provides 20 Middle School lesson plans based on the Museum's collection to supplement classroom teaching. The Amarillo Museum of Art is committed to providing quality educational materials to teachers and students throughout the Texas Panhandle and beyond.

It is well documented that using the arts in classroom curriculum can:

·  develop critical thinking skills

·  foster higher level learning

·  address multiple intelligences

·  reach different learning styles

Teacher's Choice was developed with these points in mind by four Master Teachers who worked directly with Museum staff and volunteers. Take the following steps to use this resource:

1.     First, select the desired grade level on the bar below.

2.     Then select a subject area section. The sections are divided into the following subject areas.

·  English - Creative Writing, Essays, Poetry

·  Social Studies

·  Texas History

3.     Next, link to individual lesson plans. Descriptions are provided.

4.    Finally, please share your comments and suggestions with us.
