More on the music: New York-born, New Mexico-raised Mike Fuller got a guitar for his 10th birthday. “It was a nylon string classical guitar, and it was bigger than I was”, he says. He learned how to play by listening to Jackson Browne, Cat Stevens, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor and the Beatles. Other than the occasional wedding, Mike didn’t start performing live until arriving in Amarillo in 1993. his first regular gig was at O.H.M.S. Café downtown. He now plays roughly 150 gigs a year, mainly in the Texas Panhandle.
More on the art activity: Attendants will be making relief sculptures by pressing designs into sheets of matte-black aluminum foil to create a 3-dimensional surface. Attendants will be able to draw on both sides of the foil to create different levels of embossing. The contrast between the patina-colored metal surface and the colored pencils resemble stained glass or enamel inlay.
THIRD THURSDAYS are FREE and open to the public. No reservations are required. It is a great opportunity to view the current exhibitions and participate in the offered activities. The Amarillo Museum of Art invites everyone in the community to enjoy this event.
