More on the Lecture: Amy Von Lintel recently joined the faculty at West Texas A&M University as Assistant Professor of Art History. She received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Southern California in May 2010. Her dissertation, "Surveying the Field: The Popular Origins of Art History in 19th-century Britain and France," examines the circulation of art history knowledge through affordable illustrated books and public exhibitions. Amy holds B.A. degrees in Art History and French from the University of Kansas, and an M.A. in Art History from Southern Methodist University. Her research has been generously supported by the American Association of University Women, the Council for European Studies of Columbia University, and the Yale Center for British Art.

More on the music: Singer/songwriter Darren Flowers is a regular guy with an honest message and a soulful voice. The oldest of three boys, Darren grew up in the suburbs of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma listening to the sounds of the Temptations, Jackson 5 or Marvin Gaye. Darren Flowers is an experienced touring musician as well as the head track and field coach at West Texas A&M University. Darren’s new album “Right Now” produced by Cary Pierce (Graham Colton, Jackopierce, Guster) is scheduled to be released on November 30th, 2010.

More on the art activity: Make your very own Pop Art inspired by Leo Jensen! The Art Lab will provide boxes, paper, markers, and wire so you can make a 3D collage in Leo’s style. Whether you’re inspired by the Lure of the Turf or the King of Clubs Amarillo Museum of Art will provide the tools to make your very own creation.

THIRD THURSDAYS are FREE and open to the public. No reservations are required. It is a great opportunity to view the current exhibitions and participate in the offered activities. The Amarillo Museum of Art invites everyone in the community to enjoy this event.

The Amarillo Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. except for exhibition installation weeks. Business hours are extended to 9 p.m. on most Third Thursdays. It is located at 2200 S. Van Buren on the northeast side of Amarillo College’s Washington Street Campus. There is no admission fee.
