Into the Light: Seldom Seen Works from the Permanent Collection

Into the Light: Seldom Seen Works from the Permanent Collection – through July 1

Like most museums with a collection, AMoA possesses wonderful artworks that seldom have the opportunity to be shown on the museum’s walls.  Some of these artworks, such as the two works on paper by Warren Davis (Space Jump and Green Winter) which were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Malcomb Shelton, have been in the collection since the mid-seventies and have rarely been shown.  Another artwork, Lawrence Calcagno’s The Red Season, which was given by Merrill Cheney, is a very recent addition to the Permanent Collection and is making its debut.  The exhibition offers a look across historical movements including Modernism (John Graham’s drawing from 1915), Abstract Expressionism (Francine Tint’s oil on canvas titled Pollock), Op-Art and Geometric Abstraction (Victor Vasarely, Arnold Schmidt, and Richard Anuszkiewicz).  Not only is there a variety of historical contexts shown, there is also a variety of media represented; including drawings, prints, and paintings.  Also included are works from several significant Texas artists such as Ben Woitena, Lance Letscher, David Bates, Jack Boynton, Bob Camblin, Delmas Howe, and Ed Blackburn.
