Description: Created to accompany the exhibition Scott Hyde: Making Pictures, this t-shirt design reproduces a photograph by the artist of Ray Johnson’s hand. The image is from Robert Filliou’s Hand Show (Multiples, Inc., 1967), which features Hyde’s photographs of twenty-four artists’ hands, including those of Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Filliou, and Hyde. Hyde chose Johnson’s hands because he found them to be the most distinctive of these images. Ray Johnson (1927-1995) is widely recognized as the father of mail art. In the late 1950s he started creating conceptual images and texts that he circulated through the mail to a list of friends, acquaintances and strangers.
