OBJECTIVE:
Students will be
able to make comparisons and show contrasts between two similar or dissimilar
art objects. Historical time periods will be indicated by dress and
inventions.
MATERIALS:
- Essay Paper
- Camera and Film

IMPLEMENTATION:
- After viewing
the images of art objects above, students will explore the time periods
depicted, the setting, the dress of the characters, the social and
monetary standing of the subjects, the emotions depicted, and the
possible relationship of each character in each painting/picture to
the other characters in that image.
- Teachers may
opt to have students brainstorm adjectives, adjectival phrases, verbs,
verb phrases, prepositional phrases and other parts of speech with
students prior to having students do activity.
RELATED ACTIVITIES:
- Students may
wish to do further research on the history of the Japanese culture
in order to identify the reasons for European style of dress
shown in the image.
- Students may
create a drawing or painting displaying the different styles of dress
worn by the colonists after their first few years in America, during
the westward expansion, and while living on the frontier.
- The Japanese
warrior prints may be used in place of another selection.
- The photograph
may be viewed as an example of a "staged" photo.
