TITLE: Story Development through Japanese Art

ENGLISH: Short Story

In Japanese mythology, a single deity could possess the traits of good and of evil at the same time. Serpents were not necessarily evil. Deities which lived on the mountain were directly related to the ruling dynasty and could not communicate with the deities who roamed the earth.

OBJECTIVE:

Students will create a story to explain the art object being studied. The story will display the students' knowledge of writing conventions, elements of a short story, literary conflict, and the use of descriptive text.

MATERIALS:

IMPLEMENTATION:

Using the above image, students will write a story explaining the image as though it were the illustration of the students‚ story.

RELATED ACTIVITIES:

Students may wish to research Japanese Kabuki Theater and create a stage play around a related image.
